music has always been a very important and significant part of my life... it unlocks the mind, body and spirit.  I believe that when a person finds the music that "clicks" with them, the rest of the world seems to just fall into place.

I grew up in the absolute middle of nowhere florida.  upset over being completely isolated from civilization and the rest of society, my friends and I found comfort in the only music that spoke to (or rather screamed at ) the oppressed youth of the time...  heavy metal.  I listened to and enjoyed heavy metal music for years to come.  musically, I like where I came from.  However, I am very much a creature of change...  evolution has brought me to this point.

I don't know if its because of my computer background, all those trips to london, or perhaps it has something to do with my physical transformation...  but I found that the type of music that I loved in my youth, no longer "picked me up and blew me away" like it used to.  after going through a short alternative phase, I finally found the music that "unlocked me"...

for me, good  techno and deep house is the answer...  what my daughter likes to call video game music (which in some cases is exactly the case).  It has an energy that's relentless (great for an aerobic person such as myself), and uses multiple tracks of computer generated sounds not found in nature (done by connecting the inputs and outputs of various filters, attenuators, echo cancellers, etc. in any possible number of ways).  each of these "instruments" are "looped" in a multi-track score of similar, yet slightly "out of phase" patterns, almost "visible" to the listener.  this is the basis of all techno music...  harmonic dislocation.

I say good  techno because so much of it is nothing more than repetitious electronic crap.  the trick is, sifting through the garbage and finding the good stuff...

...which I think I have

risotto

fluke is an total aural assault on your senses.  plain and simple.  they slam your brain against a wall and don't let up until the CD is over.  their music has been featured in the sony playstation game, wipeout xl, and in the volkswagen "UFO" commercial...  (although I was listening to them long before that)  :)

dubnobasswithmyheadman

underworld successfully dominates the dark sexy groves of deep house / deep techno music.  in the world where dance and industrial collide, underworld reigns supreme.  their bizarre lyrics, though interesting to figure out, adds a euphoric element to an already entrancing beat.

artist: orbital | album: the middle of nowhere orbital
the middle of nowhere

orbital sets the standard that all other "purely" techno and ambient music is measured by.  Paul and Phil Hartnoll, the two brothers from london who make up orbital, have put together several ground breaking electronic arrangements, and have had their music featured on several theatrical soundtracks.
